Designed and art directed a nautical spot that emphasized the uncertainty of starting a new journey. I wanted to combine lighting, environments, simplified shapes and woodblock textures in a way that translated smoothly for animation.

THE LANDSCAPE displays nature's indifference to technological advancements as all living things, religions and culture continue to grow, decompose and change. This storybook-like world asks the viewer what could be learned from moving slow in the age of Artificial Intelligence. It was originally projected over a snail sculpture as a seamless loop of 4 seasons for a month of November 2023 at Gallery 5 in Richmond, Virginia.

A testimonial from members Stuart McLamb and Charles Crossingham:
”While we tossed around some initial ideas, Rachel’s creative mojo took over, steering the ship with finesse and intuition. The end result? A jaw-dropping masterpiece that blew our minds!
Rachel’s creation perfectly captures the carefree, summery vibes of the song, just in time for spring to roll around. Each frame pulses with the energy of our music, bringing it to life in a way that hits you right in the feels.”

I illustrated + animated the official poster for the second annual Richmond Animation Festival happening April 28th at The Byrd Theater. The first half will feature an hour of animated shorts, followed by animated works + Q&A by Robert Beatty.
The blooming flower is Virginia’s state flower, the Dogwood tree. I thought it would be nice to combine this with an early animation technique of the zoetrope (or phenakitoscope) to compliment the Byrd Theatre’s old history with cinema.
The rest of the poster highlights the vivid wildlife around the James River which uniquely cuts through the city proper.

Created the album art for Young Scum's, "Lighter Blue" , along with some animated assets for their socials.
They asked for a feeling of slinging back blue raspberry slurpees under the summer sun, pulling inspiration from vintage storybooks and 90's cartoons.
Easter eggs: The guitar-playing character is a callback to a previous flyer I designed for them many years ago. The dogs belong to each band member and I've met every one (they are very good).

1 of 2 lyric videos I created for Fancy Gap, titled “Magnolias".
"This song is one of the more emotional tracks on the album, and we love how she captures its sentiment with such simplicity and purity. Truth be told, we both choked up a bit when we first watched it. "
